Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her father is Dominican and her mother is Puerto Rican. She was raised by her mother in Queens. When she was 10 years older the family moved into the Dominican Republic, where they lived for the next seven years. While living there, Zoe discovered a keen passion for performance dancing and started her studies at the world-class ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy in which she was taught ballet and other dance forms.
