Lee Roy Selmon blends the advantages of a scholarship to football in his family and the benefits of community service. First family he is the youngest of the nine children of Lucious the Jessie and Lucious Selmon. The family lived on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. In football, he played with his three brothers in Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award for being the best lineman in the country. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. The team also took home 2 national titles. As a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was given the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third year in 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout his time in college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began a career in business. By 1988 he had become an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 young men in the US. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He captained his college team in 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame through his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989 The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Jr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
